What is a DNA test review?

Have you taken a DNA test and need help understanding the results? I can help.

Why would I need one?

There’s so much information that comes with having taken a DNA test. Lots of numbers representing the closeness of the people you match with. And loads of people you may never have heard of!

If you’ve had an atDNA (Autosomal) test with, for example, Ancestry, you’ll see matches appearing in the relevant section of their website. Sometimes this list can grow quite large and it can be difficult to work out what are the more important connections. The sheer amount of data can be overwhelming

What’s involved?

With access to your DNA test results I can go through them and help you interpret them. I understand the numbers and how they relate to you and your matches and I have experience in using various DNA matching tools that can be daunting for beginners. Utilising these I will find the matches that are relevant and worthy of further investigation.

What do I get?

You will receive a report containing an analysis of the DNA matches and where relevant I will highlight people ‘of interest’, i.e. those who match you at a high level. You will often receive ‘cousin charts’ and perhaps ‘what are the odds’ diagrams to show how closely you are linked to these people.

What will it cost?

Reviewing a DNA test, finding matches and analysing these is an open-ended task that involves a few steps. So I will agree a budget with you before we start each step and report back at appropriate intervals to discuss the next steps depending on what I find. I currently charge £40 per hour, plus incurred costs.
