What is a family tree?
Having a family tree made is the cornerstone of family history. It’s a diagram that links all the generations together. It can go far back it time, it can go out reaching 3rd, 4th, 5th cousins, or further.
Why would I need one?
A family tree is where we start in family history. Researching family members without knowing their realtionship to you is quite uncommon. The tree of your family puts the individuals into context.
What’s involved?
Most people know their parents and siblings and usually their grandparents too but they may not know all the details in full. They may not know exact dates of birth or places of marriage. They may not know brothers and sisters of Grandparents. Creating a family tree takes all this information and puts it into a diagram that can be added to when new information is discovered.
I will take from you all that you know about your family and use the resources available to me to bring the family members together. I will discuss with you how far back we can go and whether we also spread the branches out by including cousins.

What do I get?
As well as the tree diagram itself I will supply the information that I find along the way, e.g. birth dates and places, marriage dates and places, etc. As part of the research I may have obtained copies of birth and marriage certificates as these can provide much-needed information about the next generation back in time. These will be yours to keep.
What will it cost?
Producing a family tree can be quite time consuming and this time is multiplied each time we go back a generation or spread out to look at cousins. In addition if I have had to purchase certificates then these will attract a charge. A copy of a birth certificate from the General Register Office costs £11 as of spring 2024.
